Tool Room Manager Office
Lead all tool room operations to ensure the reliability, performance, and longevity of production tooling in support of customer requirements.
Job Description
- Ensures all tools and fixtures are properly maintained with preventative maintenance and continuous improvement activities.
- Develop cleaning and maintenance instructions for all new tools.
- Schedules priorities for the Tool Maintenance and Tool Room Teams – working closely with the Master Scheduler to support customer orders.
- Ensures the department provides quality products.
- Creates and maintains a tool room budget on supplies, tool repairs and fixtures.
- Ensures daily operations of the department are carried out in a cost-effective manner.
- Responsible for the accuracy of all tools in IQMS. Will collaborate with the Master Scheduler to support customer orders.
- Works with program management team to ensure that manufacturing best practices and safety are integrated into the design of all new production tools.
- Makes recommendations for repairs on all production tooling based on sample product runs. Validates that all recommended repairs have been completed based on sample product runs.
- Develops safe, robust processes on all tool repairs and engineering changes. Ensures that tool room equipment is being utilized to it’s fullest extent and streamline processes to expedite repairs and engineering changes.
- Specifies new tool room equipment to support production repairs and engineering changes – develop business case to replace existing equipment as needed.
- Maintains customer tooling spreadsheets, tracking shot life and makes recommendations to refurbish or replace as needed.
- Works with equipment manufacturers to provide required training and assures equipment meets expectations.
- Facilitates problem-solving for ongoing problems in regard to machinery and tooling.
- Represents the company with customers.
- Develops the skills and abilities of himself/herself as well as those of the tool room staff; completes performance reviews and works with managers to ensure increases are within the established budget and allocated appropriately within the pay-for-performance system.
- Supports, follows and enforces all safety policies and practices of the company.
- Supports and participates in the Lean Manufacturing initiatives of the company.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Job Requirements & Working Conditions
Associate degree in Engineering or related field required.
Journeyman Tool & Die Maker card a plus.
- A minimum of ten years of experience leading operations in a plastic injection molding manufacturing environment, or related industry required. Demonstrated track record of implementing improved operating performance through the use of lean manufacturing/continuous improvement initiatives required.
- Experience utilizing ERP systems, preferably IQMS, and a sound understanding of advanced technology including automation required.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, clients, and employees of the organization.
- Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint) required.
- Strong understanding of mathematical and financial concepts required; including ability to prepare reports which summarize key performance metrics and forecast company business activity.
- Must be able to work additional hours as necessary to support business needs including month-end activities, this may occasionally include weekends
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
- The noise level in the office work environment is low, and is usually moderate in the production work environment.
- On site regular and reliable attendance is required.
- This position works onsite daily at Kaysun’s main office in Manitowoc, WI. Remote work option is not available on a regular basis.
