Diagnose, Repair Tools and Molds, Package, and Label Parts Produced by Injection Molding Machines

We have an opportunity for a Tool Maker to diagnose and repair tools/molds to support Kaysun’s production requirements. Repairs will include manifold systems, CNC machining, Sinker EDM and Grinding activities. Software utilized to aid these repairs will include Surfcam, Mastercam, and Solidworks.

Monday – Friday 7 am - 3 pm with possible overtime during the week and weekend.

Primary Requirement & Responsibilities

  • Study specifications such as CAD models, blueprints, sketches or verbal descriptions and visualize part to determine materials required and machines needed to fabricate tooling.
  • Review blueprints of product and mold, compute specifications.
  • Plan sequence of operations, visualizing shape of mold in reverse of product.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock to layout for machining.
  • Provide machining specifications to Precision Machinists; Set- up and operate machines such as Hurco, Mikron, milling machine, CNC milling machine, EDM, grinder and drill press to machine outer dimensions and contoured cavity of mold.
  • Verify conformance of machined parts to specifications through the use of calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, height gauges, toolmakers microscope and optical comparator.
  • Grind, file, and sand parts to fit parts for assembly and to smooth and finish cavity.
  • Assemble and disassemble molds.
  • Drive forklift, operate overhead crane and operate Rapistak to move molds and mold components.
  • Verify dimensions.
  • While performing the duties of this job in a shop environment, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
  • Evaluate processes to improve efficiency and accuracy; support and incorporate Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Stay current on machining and mold making technology.
  • Support, follow and promote all established safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • State indentured Journeyman Toolmaker cardholder preferred or a technical degree in CNC Machining or related field preferred.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.   • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally.
  • Works onsite daily in Manitowoc, WI location. Citizen sponsorship is not available.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must be able to read and comprehend instructions, memos, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Computer proficiency in a Windows environment is required, preferably with Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with IQMS or related integrated manufacturing software is strongly preferred. Proficiency with Solidworks/CAD is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of NC code is required.
  • Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions from written, oral, or diagram form, and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be self-motivated and show initiative.
  • Must be able to read and understand complex blueprints.
  • Position requires a minimum of 5 year’s experience in plastic injection mold building and/or repair, including day-to-day use of conventional and CNC machine tools.
  • Prior experience in programming of CNC machine tools required.
  • EDM, manual machining, and mold maintenance experience a plus.
  • Experience with cutter path programming or SurfCAM or Mastercam preferred.
